Director Radhamohan proved his worth in his maiden venture Azhagiya Theeyae itself giving a quality entertainer. In his next Ponniyin Selvan, Radha has come out with a soft melodrama which aims at imparting confidence in the minds of youths today.Though on the slowside, Radha Mohan has managed to sustain the interest in the movie narrating the sequence of events with certain amount of class and conviction.
For Ravikrishna, after a poor outing in his last Sukkran, Ponniyin Selvan is a huge relief. Not just the entire story revolves around him but has enough opportunities to act. Gopika plays a bubbly young girl. After a long interval, it’s heartening to see Revathy, who continues from where she had left. As usual Prakashraj has come out with a cameo adding necessary strength to the movie.
The movie is about Venu (Ravi Krishna), a youth who lives with his mother Ponni (Revathy). A responsible youth, Venu works in a factory and gets his sister (Devadarshini) married off. He has his mentor Guru (Prakash Raj) living in his next door to whom he turns up for sagely advice in times of crisis. He also has the company of girl next-door Kani (Gopika).
